2-Step Verification

Every nanz.com Google account needs 2-Step Verification. It adds a second check at sign-in, so a stolen password alone can't get into your account.

Sign in with your nanz.com account if asked. It takes about two minutes, and opens in a new tab so these steps stay behind it.

How it goes

1. Press the button above and sign in with your nanz.com account.
2. Add a second step. Easiest is a passkey on your phone: choose Add a passkey, then choose Use a phone or tablet. The QR code appears on that screen, not on the one before it. Scan it with your phone's camera. Nothing needs to be signed in on the phone. If your computer has a fingerprint reader you can use that instead, but most NANZ laptops do not have one, so the phone steps are the path that always works. Google prompt also works, if the Gmail app on your phone is already signed in to your nanz.com account.
3. Press Turn on 2-Step Verification. Google may still tell you to add a second step, even with your passkey already listed and checked. That's expected. Don't add anything else — just press the button.

You're done when the page says 2-Step Verification is on. Creating the passkey is not the finish. If you added a passkey and stopped there, your account still isn't protected and your phone still won't sign in.

You won't see an option for text-message codes. That's expected, NANZ doesn't use them.

If something looks wrong

“Couldn't sign you in” on your phone. Your account can't sign in anywhere new until 2-Step Verification is set up. Finish the setup on a computer where you're already signed in — use the passkey QR code, which doesn't need the phone signed in — then try the phone again. Not signed in anywhere? Email us (below).

“I set up a passkey, but nothing changed.” You stopped one screen early. Adding the passkey doesn't switch 2-Step Verification on by itself, you have to press Turn on 2-Step Verification afterward. If the page tells you to add a second step even though your passkey is already sitting there with a green check, ignore that and press the button anyway. Open the page again and check that it says on.

Google prompt seems to do nothing. The prompt appears on your phone, inside the Gmail app — and only if that app is signed in to your nanz.com account. If your phone isn't signed in yet, it can't be until your 2-Step Verification is on: set up a passkey first (scan the QR code with your phone's camera), then sign the phone in to Gmail.
